Maicon is the ideal right-back to bolster Real Madrid's defense, as manager Jose Mourinho looks to make the right squad adjustments to help his team advance past the semifinal of the Champions League, where they have failed the past two seasons.

Here is the latest from the Metro:

La Liga champions Real are said to have offered £6million for the Brazilian defender, as Blues boss Roberto Di Matteo prepares his next move.

The 30-year-old has less than a year left on his San Siro contract and is reported to have been offered a three-year deal worth £3.5million, according to Sport Mediaset.

While Maicon might not be the defender he was after Inter's historic treble-winning season in 2010, he's better at both ends of the pitch than current Madrid right-back Alvaro Arebeloa.

Having a right-back who can push forward and be an attacking force will give Madrid's attack another dimension, and since Maicon still has impressive pace, even at age 30, he has the speed to recover on defense if needed. Maicon has nine league goals in the past three seasons, and in a squad of Madrid's quality, his stats would likely improve.

If Maicon were to go to Madrid, then Los Blancos would probably get his absolute best for about two to three seasons. He knows that his time as a starting right-back at a top club is likely winding down, so he will give maximum effort to prove he can still contribute versus the world's best.

Him and Mourinho understand each other, and the Portuguese tactician would put the Brazilian in a position to succeed each match.

Maicon isn't a long-term solution at right-back, but he is an immediate upgrade to a team that needs to perform better in the Champions League next season.
