This one comes courtesy of the 2011-12 NBA Rookie of the Year Kyrie Irving.
After a USA basketball training session, the Cavaliers point guard challenged the perennial All-Star to a one-on-one duel for charity. Whoever wins gets $50,000, to be donated to the charity of his choice.
It definitely took some needling from the young star to convince Bryant to take on the challenge, but Irving succeeded in the end, and all of the trash-talking was recorded for our enjoyment.
The two trade barbs about their defensive abilities, or lack thereof, and while an animated Irving jumps around in front of him, a cool and collected Kobe sits back on the bench and says things like, "I give him credit for his confidence. That's 50 grand for my charity. I really do appreciate it. Easy money, easy money, easy money."
Kyrie then opens himself up to more abuse when he asks Kobe if he think he's playing against Lil' Bow Wow.
Kobe's response? "You're about the same size."
After the two agree on the terms of the bet, the Lakers superstar concedes, "He can play a little bit—for a high school kid."
Irving's confidence is undeniable, but my money's still on Bryant. He still has the experience to take down anyone in a one-on-one matchup, especially a young fella fresh out of college—or high school according to Kobe.
As disappointing as it might be to Irving, the Black Mamba has more swagger. The kid better get that $50,000 ready.
