New York Giants: Best & Worst Case Scenarios for 2012
Bleacher Report's own Dan Levy, Josh Zerkle, Matt Miller and yours truly take a crack at the best- and worse-case scenario's for your reigning Super Bowl Champion New York Giants heading into the 2012 NFL season.
The Giants have now ridden the "play your best football in December and get hot in the playoffs" formula to a Super Bowl championship twice. Perhaps it's because they haven't dominated while winning championships, or maybe it's because the NFL is so up and down from year to year, but for whatever reason there has been little talk of a Giants "dynasty" forming—though that may be exactly what is happening.
The core of this team is incredibly solid, from Tom Coughlin to Eli Manning to Jason Pierre-Paul to Justin Tuck—there are pieces in place that will be there for awhile that suggest this team will be a contender for years to come. Of course, they need to figure out a way to bring a bit more consistency to their regular-season play, but overall this team will be in the hunt for a Lombardi Trophy as long as Coughlin, Eli and the core players are around.
Again, maybe it's the fact that they didn't dominate for long stretches last year (many non-Giants fans may forget they suffered through a four-game losing streak at one point), but few people are picking this team to repeat as NFC East champions, let alone to make another run at the Super Bowl.
Despite that, the Giants have as good a chance as anyone in either conference to be hoisting the Lombardi Trophy down in New Orleans next February.
