billy.jpgFor years, Billy Crystal has hung around the Yankees as Joe Torre’s guest.

Now the Bronx Bombers have signed the comedian for one day.

The comedian turns 60 on Friday, and he’ll wear No. 60 as he appears in a spring training game for the Yankees against Pittsburgh on Thursday.

The team announced in a news release Monday that Crystal would sign a one-day contract, practice with the Yankees on Wednesday and play on Thursday. Commissioner Bud Selig approved the deal.

George Steinbrenner is a fan of Crystal and he had a signed poster of the film ”Analyze This.”

And, according to the Yankees, Crystal has an impressive baseball résumé: he batted .348 as a senior baseball captain at Long Beach (N.Y.) High School.

“I’m looking forward to helping the younger players,” Crystal said in the news release. “Which, by the way, is all of them.”
