Scott Kazmir took the mound for the first time in over one year, and the results were what one could expect.
One inning pitched, two hits, two earned runs and one home run with a strikeout.
According to Kazmir’s game quotes posted on the Sugar Land Skeeters website, his initial outing was to be only one inning.
"It was just for an inning. We are trying to get me acclimated pitching against hitters again. You can practice all you want, but once you are in that game situation and have that adrenaline going it is different. It is good that I got an inning in for now to get my feet wet and move forward," Kazmir said.
After Kazmir was away from the game for so long, you can understand the limit.
It’s only one game, but I really hope Kazmir gets to pitch more during his next outing. The summer goes by pretty quickly, and before you know it trade deadlines have passed and playoff matchups begin to take shape.
For now, 22 pitches and one inning is the best anyone can ask for. In the meantime, the fans in Sugar Land should enjoy this major league talent, because after a couple good outings and with the return of his velocity, he will attract a lot of attention.
