London 2012: Gold, Silver and Bronze Medal Predictions for Men's Basketball

I don't see an entirely clear path to gold for Team USA.

To be clear, America has the most talented team. I would just prefer the U.S. to have the most talented team by a huge margin, considering that it will be squaring off against more practiced opponents.

The Americans have been in a constant state of flux on account of injuries. Derrick Rose and nearly every American NBA big man have been nixed from the final roster.

Perhaps Tyson Chandler can be the savior here, as he is one of the best defensive big men in the game. Chandler is not the shot-blocker he once was, but he compensates with superior positioning and mobility. The concern is if they lean too heavily on Chandler, an oft-injured player with few offensive skills.

The U.S. certainly has challenges ahead against disciplined, talented squads like Spain, France and Germany.
