Anderson Silva and Chael Sonnen met for the second and final time at UFC 148 in Las Vegas. With two years in the making, Silva entered the bout with a lot of animosity towards the challenger who had disrespected his friends, family and country.
As the fight began, it seemed like deja vu as Sonnen quickly got Silva to the ground and began to land punches to the body and elbows to the head. Many in the arena believed that Sonnen had Silva's number and it would be a repeat performance of their first meeting.
We were all so very wrong.
A failed takedown attempt in the second was the beginning of the end, as it allowed Anderson to hit a fantastic anchor punch that left the challenger woozy. Sonnen attempted an ill-advised spinning backfist, which resulted in his landing on his butt.
This was the opening that Silva needed, as he landed a perfectly-executed knee to the sternum and then followed it up with punches to end the fight.
It was Anderson Silva's 10th-straight middleweight title defense and his career-defining victory. There are no more questions about whether the first fight was a fluke.
Anderson Silva is the best fighter there's ever been. Enjoy watching the highlights. I know I've watched them about 10 times already.
