Chris Rose and co-host Kevin Millar realize their show, Intentional Talk, on the MLB Network has an ever-growing and loyal audience. With the show airing at 5 p.m. each weekday, they are on in every major league clubhouse. The program quickly has become a must-see show for players as well as fans.
As he was getting ready to go on air Tuesday, Rose took some time to talk about the show and the Nationals.
James Williams: What makes Intentional Talk work?
Chris Rose: Well, Kevin and I have the total freedom to talk about any topic we like without any filtering. We have a great staff that gives us great highlights, stats and all the tools we need to make sure that we can not only make a point but back it up with video and stats. As for players watching the show, that is great because when we go into the clubhouse anywhere in baseball the guys want to talk about the show or our Twitter blows up and the players give us instant feedback that we share with the fans on the air.
JW: What impresses you most about the Nationals?
CR: You have to love the pitching. Stephen Strasburg, Gio Gonzalez and Jordan Zimmermann have been outstanding. From top to bottom, the Nationals' staff is one of the best in baseball. I really think that once Bryce Harper came to the team he brought an instant energy ... It has inspired guys like Ryan Zimmerman, Michael Morse, Adam LaRoche and Ian Desmond to take their game up a notch. Now that they are hitting, the sky is the limit for the Nats, but the Strasburg shutdown could be a big key.
JW: Should Harper be an All-Star?
CR: I think that allowing the fans to decide was a good move by baseball. We are going to air over 20 hours of live programming from Kansas City during the All-Star festivities, and I really think it would great to see Harper being part of the All-Star team. He will be there many times in the future, but 2012 in K.C. at 19 years that is a great place to start that streak. But make no mistake about no matter how or if Harper makes the All-Star team he is worthy of being a member of the team.
