The mixed doubles event is one of the more overlooked events in tennis, far less glamorous than the singles or regular doubles events.

This year's Olympics marks the first time that mixed doubles will be an official event since 1924, and the selection of teams is very much an afterthought that follows what is thought to be the more important tennis.

Mixed doubles has been a part of Wimbledon since 1913, and has been played every year since with the exception of the years of the two World Wars.

Though the list of winners includes many names not known to the wider public, it includes such greats as Martina Navratilova (four titles), Bob Hewitt (two titles), Serena Williams, and Billie Jean King (four titles).

The mixed doubles final will take place on Wimbledon's center court on Sunday, July 7, following the men's final between Andy Murray and Roger Federer. The broadcast will begin at 12:30 p.m. on ESPN.

The match will also be streamed on the web service ESPN3, which can be viewed for free by ESPN subscribers, and is available on the iPhone and iPad app in addition to ESPN.com.

For those watching in the United Kingdom, the match will be broadcast on BBC2, beginning at 5:30 p.m.

The duo of Mike Bryan and Lisa Raymond enter the finals after defeating Katarina Srebotnik and Nenad Zimonjic in the semifinals 6-3, 6-4. After a first-round bye, Bryan and Raymond won four straight matches without losing a single set.

Bryan is ranked third in the men's doubles rankings, a position he shares with his brother, while Raymond shares the top ranking on the women's list with Liezel Huber.

Raymond previously won the mixed doubles title in 1999, while Bryan is attempting to win his first after twice losing in the finals. Both have won at least one Wimbledon doubles trophy.

Bryan and Raymond will face Leander Paes of India and Elena Vesnina of Russia. Paes has won the Wimbledon mixed doubles title three times, including his 1999 victory with Lisa Raymond.

Vesnina was runner-up in last year's tournament with Mahesh Bhupathi. Paes won the bronze medal in mens singles at the 1996 Olympics.

Paes and Vesnina come to the finals after defeating the duo of Bob Bryan and Liezel Huber in a significant upset. Bob Bryan is the twin brother of Mike Bryan, and the two have won 11 Grand Slam doubles titles together.

Paes and Vesnina's victory eliminates the opportunity of watching the Bryan brothers compete against each other in the Wimbledon mixed doubles final for the second time, following the 2008 final in which Bob teamed with Sam Stosur to defeat Mike and Katarina Srebotnik, who Mike defeated in this year's semifinals.
