The Pittsburgh Penguins have signed forward Trevor Smith to a one-year contract, it was announced today by executive vice president and general manager Ray Shero. Smith’s contract is a two-way deal worth $575,000 at the NHL level. Smith, 27, split the 2011-12 between the Tampa Bay Lightning and their top minor-league affiliate, the Norfolk Admirals of the American Hockey League (AHL). Smith appeared in a career-high 16 games for Tampa Bay, notching two goals, three assists, five points and a plus-2 rating.
