As WWE Diva AJ Lee continues to go from strength to strength in her current romance storyline with Daniel Bryan and CM Punk, it seems she's impressing not only the fans with her performances, but higher-ups in WWE.
In this week's (subscribers-only) Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer gives an update on the former NXT contestant, noting that AJ's mega-push on WWE TV will likely continue, with management eager to turn her into their next big female star:
For what it’s worth, right now the plan is to make A.J. into one of the featured stars of the company, as a completely different but modern day version of Elizabeth or Sable. It’s not just for this PPV, but going forward.
While this is an encouraging sign, it will be interesting to see if the notoriously fickle booking team can stick to the plan of making AJ a big star past the pay-per-view.
There have been many attempts in the past from WWE to create the next big female star—girls like Ashley Massaro, Candice Michelle and Christy Hemme spring to mind—but none of them have panned out, often due to erratic booking or the company simply losing interest.
