For a guy who didn't win a single race last year, this year has started off with a bang. As the fireworks went off in the background symbolizing the official end of the 2009 Daytona 500, an emotional Matt Kenseth thanked his crew, his family, and his fans. The race was called for rain.
Matt Kenseth said, "I'm crying like a baby. I thank my team and my family. It's an unbelievable feeling, after last year, winning a race means a lot to me. These guys have been fired up and working hard, it's just unbelievable."
Kenseth kept a position near the front for most of the race. Had he not done this, we may have had another driver in the winner's circle tonight. Strategy, teamwork, and a desire to win added to the luck.
"Today, we were able to make the right moves," Kenseth said. That's exactly what it took to begin the 2009 race season with a win for this deserving driver and team.
Today was a great day for Roush Fenway Racing and Matt Kenseth. As the King once said, "I'd rather be lucky than good any day." Let's see if Matt's luck holds out for the remainder of the season. I have a feeling Roush Fenway Racing will be able to throw a hefty dose of skill and talent in with that mix!
