Hansen Rolls by 10 in Iowa Derby
Following a ninth in the Kentucky Derby, Hansen returned to the win column in resounding fashion at Prairie Meadows Saturday night, posting a 10-length victory in the Grade 3, $245,000 Iowa Derby. Only four out-classed foes lined up to take on the two-year-old champion, who seized the initiative at the start and led wire to wire under Ramon Dominguez.
The Mike Maker-trained colt recorded opening splits in :24, :47 2/5 and 1:11 on a short lead and began to widen his advantage on the far turn. Hansen entered the stretch under hand ride and continued to draw off in the final furlong, completing 1 1/16 miles in 1:42 on the fast track.
