Welcome to BR5, your daily source for sports and pop culture news.
What’s better than sports? Not much, right? Turns out there’s one thing better than sports: sports plus cars. With that in mind, BR5’s Desi Sanchez took a trip to the Classic Car Club in lower Manhattan to hang out with Derek DeAngelis from Fast Lane Daily and talk about athletes and their awesome rides!
Our first athlete is John Cena. Known for trying to get people to STFU in the ring, Cena will happily go on and on about his car collection. Seriously, he has a DVD out about his car collection. So what’s all the buzz about? The guy loves the classics, and with good reason. Among many, his repertoire includes: a 1971 Ford Gran Torino, 1970 Mercury Cougar Eliminator, a 1970 Pontiac GTO Judge and a 1966 Dodge Charger. It’s official; we’re speechless.
The next athlete on our list is Shaquille O’Neal. Shaq has a big personality, so it’s no surprise this big man has some big cars: a Hummer H2, a Cadillac Escalade and a Lamborghini Gallardo? That’s right, the car is about the size of his left foot, yet Shaq had to have it. Sweet ride, to be sure, just a questionable buy for such a big guy.
This next entry may surprise you: golfer Bubba Watson. Not known for their sweet rides, excluding Tiger Woods and his Buicks, golf has a man with a sweet ride that the PGA can be proud of. Watson owns “General Lee,” the car from The Dukes of Hazzard. Not a replica—the “General Lee.” Definitely deserving of recognition.
Manny Pacquaio may have just “lost” in his most recent bout, but it must be some consolation to come home to such a sweet car collection. Among Pacquaio’s fleet are a Ferrari 458 Italia, a Porsche Cayenne Turbo, a Mercedes SLK, a Lincoln Navigator and a Mitsubishi Pajero V6. Apparently, his collection is considered “low key…”
And finally, rounding out our first five is King James. Perhaps not everyone was prepared for the King to finally be crowned in the NBA, but he definitely was. His fleet includes an all-white Camaro SS, a customized orange Jeep Wrangler and a Ferrari Spyder. Truly a collection of rides fit for a king.
That’s all for our first five. Impressed? If not, tell us who we should have included below. Be sure to head over to Fast Lane Daily to check out the next five on our list!
