With a 70-68 victory over Evansville on Wednesday, Illinois State remained one game behind Creighton for second place in the Missouri Valley Conference. The win was the second in a row on the road for Illinois State. In a low-scoring conference, Illinois State continues to shine on offense with 71.7 points per game. It is second-best in the league.

Drake got pushed around in the second half by Indiana State on Wednesday, resulting in a 69-57 defeat. When they were not being out-rebounded, the Bulldogs had no answer for Jay Tunnell, who scored 25 (including five three-pointers. Tunnell went 10-of-11 from the field for the Sycamores. The defeat was the fourth out of the Bulldogs last five games, and now they get the pleasure of facing the leagues' top-two teams.
