Darren O'Day doesn't mind going for a stroll in random cities. In fact, he would very much prefer it to walking.
Say hello to the SoloWheel, a device that will immediately drop your remaining cool points to zero.
Sportress of Blogitude stumbled upon this brilliant video of Baltimore Orioles pitcher Darren O'Day speaking with Wall Street Journal sportswriter Jason Gay.
The two discuss the finer points of a streamlined Segway. Side note: Streamlining the Segway does not make it any more acceptable to ride. You still end up looking like Screech.
The best part of the video is O'Day getting Gay to try to ride the SoloWheel. It's so easy, even a sports writer can stumble around and nearly kill himself on the thing.
It looks like a blast, if you happen to have a few acres of complete privacy to try it out. I might be keen to take this out for a ride if there was a guarantee that no discerning eyes would find out.
There is also the hilarious prank put on by manager Buck Showalter and MLB Fan Cave. The Orioles skipper showed up as O'Day was giving a tutorial of the SoloWheel.
That's when Showalter comes out and berates his pitcher for fooling around with this ridiculous thing. You can see O'Day go from confident to emasculated in the blink of an eye.
Of course it's all fun and games, and laughs are had. That is until you get on this contraption, because there is nothing light-hearted about riding around town on a nerded-up Segway.
Follow me on Twitter, just not on a SoloWheel.
