I like the Chicago Cubs chances of making it to the World Series in 2009 even more so than this past year's team due to some key acquisitions and some not yet made.
The biggest acquisition thus far this off-season has been the addition of left handed hitter Milton Bradley. The Cubs lineup for the last two years have been primarily right handed hitters which carried them through the regular season but that element was exposed in the last two playoff runs therefore they went out and picked up a powerful left handed bat in Bradley. Last year Bradley enjoyed a career year with the Texas Rangers but was purged during this past off-season due to the Rangers sudden influx of young talent. This may well turn out to be quite a steal for the Cubbies especially if Bradley can produce like he did this past summer with the Rangers.
There are more moves on the horizon for the Cubs as far as pitching goes ,which remains to be seen since Jake Peavy appears to be off of Chicago's radar. We will wait and see on the availability of free agent pitchers.
