By now, we have all heard the rumors that John Cena will be facing CM Punk in the main event of SummerSlam along with the match of Brock Lesnar vs. Triple H.
This idea seemingly came out of nowhere in the past few weeks, especially when you consider how Cena has been dealing with Big Show and John Laurinaitis while Punk has been dealing with some girl issues and a certain individual named Daniel Bryan.
We saw Cena and Punk face off at Money in the Bank and SummerSlam last summer, and we know they can pull off great matches together.
Here are a few big factors which come into question with the prospect of this potentially great match.
Obviously the biggest factor coming into play with these rumors is John Cena reentering the WWE Championship picture for the first time since last November.
Cena has been off doing other things, dealing with the likes of Kane, the Rock, Brock Lesnar, and John Lauranitis, but now it looks like the WWE is ready to slap their biggest title back on their biggest star.
Cena officially entered the WWE Championship Money in the Bank match on Monday and considering how he has never won the briefcase before, it seems pretty clear that Cena will be walking away in a few weeks with the contract.
Whether he cashes in on Punk before SummerSlam, on Bryan if he beats Punk at MITB, or for SummerSlam itself, setting up the match in advance like RVD did at ECW One Night Stand, Cena will be right back in the WWE Title picture.
I wouldn't consider Cena getting the title back to be a bad thing. It's not like he was never going to go after the title again, and matches between Cena and Punk have been legendary.
Punk is a great champion and a better WWE superstar, but some time away from the title could be good for Punk as he could enter some new fresh feuds before getting the title back in the future.
Another rumor which has been flying around with all of this is the prospect of CM Punk turning heel.
It would make sense if this was any other Superstar, considering how face vs. face matches don't happen all too often and there is no way that Cena would be the heel in this situation.
Let's face it, Cena is never going to turn heel as long as he's doing 300 Make-a-Wish foundation wishes.
Therefore, that leaves just Punk to turn heel. We all know how good he can be as the bad guy and there have been some cryptic tweets from him suggesting it, but this idea is all kinds of wrong.
Punk is soaring and is well on his way to being one of the WWE's all time greats as well as the top dog in the company. You don't halt all of that by making the guy a heel again suddenly.
I don't think that WWE will do this and they shouldn't, but if the plan is to have Punk continue on the Stone Cold path of being the antihero, by all means let the plans continue.
So what happens to Daniel Bryan in all of this?
The guy might be the most over wrestler in all of the WWE right now. The arenas erupt when his music hits and the sheer loudness of the word "yes!" is deafening.
His mic skills have improved, he might be the best in-ring performer in the WWE, he is a fantastic heel, and the WWE has rewarded him with three straight WWE Championship matches.
I thought that he was going to beat Punk at Over The Limit and even more at No Way Out, but I was wrong on both occasions.
Now with the new stipulation (SmackDown spoilers) added to their match at Money in the Bank, it normally would make the outcome of this match even more unpredictable.
But if Cena vs. Punk is happening at SummerSlam, Punk is almost guaranteed to beat Bryan at MITB.
So where does this leave Bryan? Does he continue chasing Punk's championship? Will he move onto something new? Will he involve himself in the title match at SummerSlam? Or will he actually beat Punk at MITB only to have Cena cash in on him?
The possibilities are endless for Byran, but the WWE needs to keep him at the top right not while he is their hottest commodity.
AJ, AJ, AJ, what are we going to do with you?
I don't even know where to start with this girl as she continues to baffle me every week, but one thing I do know is that she is one of the best Divas in a long time.
She's actually interesting and fun to watch, which I don't remember ever saying about a Diva before.
We still have yet to see if she will align herself with Punk or Bryan, now that Kane is out of the picture, and we don't even know if they will accept her if she officially aligns with them.
She will almost definitely make her alliances known at MITB in July and when she does, how will it affect SummerSlam?
If she chooses Punk, will Punk have her at ringside for the match against Cena? I'm not really sure if the WWE wants to include a Diva in such a marquee match but I'm not ruling anything out with this chick buster.
Hell, maybe she'll be all over Cena once he wins the contract!
AJ is one awesome character, but what will her role be, if she has one, in this SummerSlam match between Cena and Punk? Anything can happen.
In any case, if any of these rumors are true, I am really starting to look forward to SummerSlam.
