WWE Rumors: CM Punk, John Cena, SmackDown Spoilers and Wednesday's WWE Buzz

If there was a theme to today's piece, I think it would be too much of a bad thing. WWE, as we often discuss, likes to use more than it has to when putting together matches and feuds.

Stipulations and gimmicks are supposed to be used for a certain specific purpose, yet for reasons known only to the powers that be, this hasn't been the case for years. Looking at the SmackDown tapings, which we will get to at the end of this article, it is happening again.

Last month, for no reason, WWE decided the best thing it could do would be to have John Cena or John Laurinaitis get fired, depending on the result of the Cena-Big Show matchup. No one cared because we have seen it many times before. Plus, everyone knows Laurinaitis will be back on television sooner than later.

It is all too much for WWE to try, and so little of it actually works. What will work for you are the news and links we have for you today.

No longer is John Cena the only charity ambassador in WWE. The WWE champion will be joining former Chicago Cubs pitcher Kerry Wood and others in a bowling event to benefit Wood's Family Foundation Charity.

Question on Everybody's Mind: Does WWE recognize Punk's marketability?

Our Take: While WWE might see something in Punk to let him get out there, he has a limited market. Still, it is good to see him get the opportunity to do something like this, and represent himself and the business in a positive light.

Even if Vince McMahon can't quit being a bully to the rest of the world, at least some of his workers see the value in helping others. Maybe Punk and Cena can keep a friendly tally of all the work they do for the rest of the year, with the winner getting the WWE title at the end. There's a gimmick WWE can get behind.

JOHN CENA VS. ROCK'S WRESTLEMANIA BUYRATE KEEPS GOING DOWN

Despite WWE trying to tell everyone that WrestleMania 28 did 1.3 million buys, the more information that comes out, the lower that number gets. The latest report has the show, headlined by Cena vs. Rock, did between 1.1 and 1.2 million pay-per-view buys.

Question on Everybody's Mind: What does this mean?

Our Take: On the one hand, it means that WWE still did very well. WrestleMania 28 was still the highest grossing event in company history. But the fact the buyrate has dropped nearly two points since WWE's original report is yet another Vince McMahon fabrication.

Hype Meter: 4 out of 5 WrestleMania Moments

Considering that WWE seemed to be debating whether a rematch between Cena and Rock for WrestleMania 29 depended on how well the first match did, I think we could easily see a scenario where they go at it again. I don't think we need to see it again, nor do I think the interest would be there again, but it's WWE's call.

SHAWN MICHAELS BELIEVES IN DOLPH ZIGGLER

Despite many fans trying to compare Michaels and Ziggler because they are smaller, athletic wrestlers, there is little there to support the argument. That isn't stopping HBK from endorsing Ziggler, you know, when he actually watches the product. (via Twitter)

Question on Everybody's Mind: Will WWE notice Michaels' endorsement?

Our Take: In some ways WWE has noticed Ziggler. He is put in good spots with regularity. He just isn't allowed to go over because we can't have him becoming too big a star. It's yet another case of the kinda, sorta push that really isn't, which we see so often.

Hype Meter: 5 out of 5 "New" Shawn Michaels

Ziggler might be the most frustrating star to watch in WWE. You can see his potential whenever he steps in the ring. The fans are starting to cheer him because they know what he can be. Yet WWE has to do everything in its power to keep him at a certain level.

WWE WANTS TO MAKE SURE CM PUNK VS. DANIEL BRYAN ISN'T GOOD

Courtesy of WWE

You would think that CM Punk vs. Daniel Bryan in a WWE Championship match would be a good enough sell for WWE. Everyone knows the match will be great, as long as you don't do too much or add a stupid gimmick that no one cares about. So what does WWE do? Let's add A.J. as the special referee.

Question on Everybody's Mind: Could the WWE title mean less?

Our Take: Don't be so cynical, fans. It's still a lot bigger than the United States or Intercontinental Titles. Do the Tag Titles still exist? I can appreciate what WWE is trying to do with A.J., but she is being put in positions to overshadow championship matches. That is a big problem.

Hype Meter: 0 out of 5 Mindless Stipulations

Hopefully WWE just lets Punk and Bryan wrestle for 15 minutes before trying anything stupid with A.J. Even if she screws up the finish, at least we will have the previous quarter-hour to look at. Oh by the way, Sheamus retained the world title by pinning, who else, Dolph Ziggler.
