The semifinals of Euro 2012 kick off today, and there are some insanely talented goalscorers left on the schedule who are highly capable of carrying their teams to the finals.
These are the type of players who do things on the pitch that just look impossible, and it will take spectacular performances for their respected national squads to reach the championship game.
So, let’s take a look at both semifinal matchups and examine the scorers whose breathtaking performances will spur their teams to victory.
Portugal vs. Spain
Date: Wednesday, June 27
Time: 2:45 p.m. ET
The Chelsea star is one of the most gifted strikers in the world, but he has been coming off the bench for Spain early on in this tournament.
In part, this is because of Torres' inconsistent performances in much of 2012, not only for his national squad but for Chelsea as well.
However, Torres still remains as one of the most talented forwards on the planet, and Spain would be crazy not to take advantage of him.
When he received the start against Ireland in the group stage, it paid dividends for Spain. Torres played a beautiful game and scored two goals.
If given the starting nod, he could have the same impact against a dangerous Portugal squad.
Torres netted the game-winning goal for Spain in Euro 2008, and he is still capable of carrying the Spanish in 2012.
Despite a sluggish start to his European championships, Ronaldo has rounded into form and leads the tournament with three goals.
Ronaldo is spearheading the Portugal attack with his powerful attacking style, and the Portuguese need him to be in top form if they hope to topple the world champion Spanish squad.
The Real Madrid star is capable of carrying Portugal past their border rivals, the Spanish, but he has to prove he can score on the biggest stage under pressure.
Spain knocked Portugal out of the World Cup in 2010, in part because of a horrid game by the Portuguese's top striker. So, Ronaldo has a lot to prove entering this match.
If Ronaldo can show the form he displayed with Real Madrid in 2011, when he scored 60 goals, Portugal has a chance to upset Spain.
Prediction: Portugal 2 Spain 1
Germany vs. Italy
Date: Thursday, June 28
Time: 2:45 p.m. ET
One of the Germans most experienced players at 34 years old, Klose was coming off the bench for Germany in the opening round of the tournament.
But in the quarterfinals against Greece, Klose was plugged into the starting lineup, and the decision instantly paid off. Klose scored the game-winning goal in the 68th minute, helping to spur the Germans into the semis.
Klose is one of the most decorated international players in German history with 113 caps, 64 goals and 21 assists. Now, he only sits three scores behind German legend Gerd Muller on Germany's all-time leading goal scoring list.
Klose is a professional goal scorer and one of the most decorated players in international history.
Expect him to have a heavy impact on the Italian defense on Thursday.
Balotelli is one of the most polarizing players in the world. The 21-year-old Italian manages to turn heads with his elite abilities and his world class immaturity.
However, no matter your opinion of the Manchester City star, there is no denying his talent, and Italy will need him to play up to form to defeat the Germans.
Balotelli has had an up-and-down tournament thus far. He scored a stunning goal against Ireland in the group stage, but he has also disappeared at times during the tournament.
Italy will need its star striker to transform into the world-class striker he is in order to defeat the Germans.
But it is a mystery as to which Balotelli will show up to the field.
Will we see the talented player who scores highlight goals for Man City? Or will we see the hot head whose antics can cost his team the game?
In order for the Italians to come away with a win in the match, Balotelli has to make sure it's the former.
Prediction: Germany 3 Italy 1
