Nebraska had a successful first season in the Big Ten, finishing with a 9-4 record, with victories over Michigan State, Penn State and Ohio State. This season, they look to take that next step and become one of the top teams in the country.

With the season quickly approaching, many Cornhusker fans can't wait to see what the next season has in store, especially with this squad returning so many players from a year ago.

While we continue to wait for fall camp to arrive, here are some of the latest 2012 Nebraska Cornhusker recruiting updates.

Parrker Westphal Was Impressed with Lincoln

While everyone is paying attention to the 2013 recruits, it is never too early to get a head start on the 2014 class. That's why having cornerback Parrker Westphal stop by may give the Cornhuskers a slight advantage when it is time for him to make his announcement. Westphal drove from his hometown of Bolingbrook, IL and was very impressed by what he saw.

“I knew that the facilities were great, but they were top-notch. I just tried to take it all in. Their academic center was nice, it was brand new. The Ndamukong Suh weight room was unreal.” Westphal said. (Via Scout.com)

He also rated his visit on a scale from 1 to 10.

“The visit to Nebraska was probably about an “8”. If there was one thing that could have been better it would have been more one-on-one time with the coaches to talk.”

Westphal already has offers from schools such as Ohio State, Michigan and West Virgina as well. He is already considered by many recruiting sites to be a shutdown corner, and with his combination of speed and aggressiveness, he will be a highly-recruited player until it is time for him to announce.

Danny Mattingly Will Drop by

Linebacker Danny Mattingly is a four-star player out of Spokane, WA who has the ability to play tight end as well. Whichever position he ends up at, he has good size at 6'5", 225 pounds and is a physical player who has a nose for the football. As a tight end, he has soft hands; as a linebacker, he is solid at dropping back into coverage and is a sure tackler.

He has offers from Alabama, Boise State and Washington, among others, but has heard great things about Nebraska and will drop by within the next couple of weeks.

“I can’t wait to see what the town is like and to get to see the program,” explained Mattingly. “I know their football is huge and they don’t have a pro team to compete with.” (Via Scout.com)

Along with visiting Nebraska, he also has visits scheduled with Notre Dame and Oklahoma.

Johnny Stanton Visiting Again

Quarterback Johnny Stanton may not have the sexiest offers in the country, but he is a playmaker at the quarterback position. The three-star player is built extremely well at 6'3", 221 pounds and is a dual-threat quarterback. During his junior year of high school, he threw for over 2,400 yards, rushed for over 1,500 and scored 38 total touchdowns.

He has offers on the table from Cal, Washington and Navy, but really likes Nebraska, as he is planning another visit to Lincoln.

I wasn't able to see a lot of the campus or talk to any of the players while I was there. Said Stanton. I have been texting Taylor Martinez because his brother goes to a school nearby. I am looking forward to talking to him about how things are there at Nebraska. (Via Scout.com)

Stanton also plans on checking out USC and Wisconsin during the road trip, but those are two schools that have yet to extend an offer.

Joel Lanning Did Not Commit

Quarterback Joel Lanning is a 6'2", 200-pound dual-threat quarterback who has a busy lifestyle with football recruiting and playing for his high school baseball team. The top two schools he is currently looking at are Iowa State and Nebraska.

He has already checked out both schools, but has not made a commitment as of yet despite what Internet rumors are reporting.

"I haven't committed to any school," Lanning said. "I really like both of the teams that I am considering; Nebraska and Iowa State. I really like Nebraska, what's not to like there?" (Via Scout.com)

Lanning plans to attend a one-day camp at Iowa State, but does not have anything planned after that as of right now.
