"A historic announcement," he said.

Yes, it was. It was historic in that history tends to repeat itself.

Many fans have been complaining for months that John Cena was hogging up the main event spotlight with no good reason, especially considering that he hasn't been the champion for quite some time.

There have been exceptions (Rock vs. Cena and Lesnar vs Cena) for obvious reasons.

However, CM Punk fans, Daniel Bryan fans, Sheamus fans, and Dolph Ziggler fans are among the many who are tired of their favorite superstars being overshadowed by the one who cannot be seen: John Cena.

And just as these criticisms were reaching their peak, the WWE goes and pours gasoline over the flame by placing John Cena even further into the spotlight.

Oh yes. John Cena will be a contender in the Money in the Bank match to face the WWE Champion. His opponents thus far will be Big Show, Kane and Chris Jericho.

Is it just me, or was the main allure of the MITB to give rising stars (not former champions) a shot at the title?  But now, as Vickie Guerrero announced on this past Monday's WWE Raw, only former WWE Champions can contend.

A complete contradiction, if you ask me.

But it seems that there are a significant amount of fans in the WWE Universe that want to see Punk and Cena go at it again. What that would achieve escapes me.

But if, and it's a big 'if', Cena Five Knuckle Shuffles his way to victory, I can see one unique way that it could appeal to Cena lovers and haters alike.

Most heroes I can remember eventually come face to face with their antithesis - Ryu/Evil Ryu, Link/Dark Link, Superman/Bizarro.

Kane, at one point, tempted Cena to "embrace the hate."

Lately, Big Show has been picking fights with Cena.  What if, and it's likely, Big Show knocked Cena again with the WMD. Except this time, it has cerebral and, thus, psychological damage.  Not unlike the Perry Saturn angle with Raven about 10 years ago.

What if Cena could be both Superman and Bizarro? At one point he's the Cena that kids know and love and the next moment he's the rapping, thuganomic, throwback, chain gang soldier so many have missed?

It would fit together nicely with AJ's new crazy gimmick - adding even more crazy to a Punk vs. Cena angle. Cena gets to be truly good and truly bad without letting anyone down.

Best of all, it would be unpredictable. Fans would be torn.

Then again, maybe I'm just reaching.  Wishful thinking.

But what is a fan to do in these dark times, when there is so much crazy to go around?
