Strait of Dover Sets Track Record in Front-Running Queen's Plate Win

Canyon Farms' homebred Strait of Dover led wire to wire and won the $978,340 Queen's Plate Stakes, the first jewel in Canada's Triple Crown, by 1¼ lengths in track record time on Sunday at Woodbine. The colt from the first crop of Lane's End stallion English Channel easily held back runner-up Irish Mission and third-place finisher Dixie Strike—both fillies—for his fourth straight victory and third in as many starts this year. He covered the 1¼ miles of North America's oldest continuously run stakes in 2:01.99 on Woodbine's synthetic Polytrack surface, eclipsing the previous record of 2:02.18 set by Pachattack in the 2010 Maple Leaf Stakes.
