WWE: Why Christian and the Miz Could Have a Great Feud
Bonne St-Jean Baptiste tout le monde!
Yes, people up here are on a holiday weekend and what a glorious day it is.
Speaking of glorious, so is the history of the Intercontinental Championship. Currently held by Christian a.k.a "Captain Charisma," it seems to be in good hands as the veteran may be able to carry it to new heights.
His feud with former champion Cody Rhodes behind him, Christian now has a clear course and many to choose from to be his next challenger.
But who to pick? There are viable candidates, but this title needs to be thrust once more into the spotlight. It needs to overshadow the World Heavyweight championship because there can only be ONE No. 2 title in WWE.
Christian needs to be in a feud with someone of incredible charisma, whether booed or cheered. Someone who is great on the mic and of high profile. Someone like The Miz.
Yes, the "Awesome One" and "Captain Charisma" would deliver a very interesting program should they ever come together.
Here, take a look.
Fans Would Love the Verbal Exchange
Everyone knows how much of a loud mouth The Miz can be. He has made it a major part of his gimmick since joining the ranks of WWE in the mid-2000s.
Through all the hype, the arrogance and the determination, he managed to defeat Randy Orton for the WWE championship and then went on to beat John Cena in the main event of WrestleMania XXVII.
That sort of thing wins you over a ton of fans, and they will stick by him despite his recent ups and downs.
Christian is a veteran. As a multi-time Tag Team Champion, Intercontinental Champion and former World Champion, the man has accomplished many things in this company and foremost among them is: capturing the hearts of the WWE Universe.
Should they come face to face in the near future, their verbal exchanges would surely be back and forth, not to mention hilarious. One fact about both characters is how funny they can be in their promos, even if they are villains.
I would love me a Miz-Christian feud, even if it was only on the mic.
Two Former World Champions Collide
Both The Miz and Christian held World titles in 2011. They earned them and will have the label "former World Champion" moniker for the rest of their careers.
Putting the prestigious Intercontinental Championship on Christian is in no way a demeaning action. It augments the value of the title and shows the world how some superstars can make the best out of any situation. It shows humility as well.
Remember that Ric Flair captured the IC title himself in the latter days of his career and claimed it was as glorious as any of his 16 World Championship wins. I agree.
All parts of a pay-per-view card are important. The mid-card is especially because it is what prepares people for the last show of the night, and it must keep you interested.
If two great, former WWE/WH Champions collide, then that would be attention grabbing. It doesn't happen every day, does it?
On a personal note, I hope something like this happens so it can take some light away from the World Heavyweight championship. I want that thing unified into the WWE Championship ASAP!
It Could Lead to a Great Three-Way Feud
Once these two get the ball rolling, it could draw attention to yet another great performer who'd want a crack at the IC belt. One who is very familiar with it too.
This legend has held the Intercontinental Championship on nine separate occasions and I know in my heart as a longtime fan that No. 10 will come soon. He would beat his own record!
Just imagine the impact of a Christian vs. The Miz vs. Chris Jericho feud. Who the hell would want to watch Sheamus take on Alberto Del Rio? The Celtic Warrior is great but that other one?...not so great.
It seems like this sort of once-in-a-lifetime program can only happen in video games such as WWE'12, but what if it is already planned?
Chris Jericho is going to return from his suspension soon. The Miz will eventually return after wrapping up filming "The Marine 3," and Christian needs a new opponent after Cody Rhodes.
What a summer that would be.
SummerSlam 2012, the 25th anniversary should read:
Intercontinental Championship Match
Christian (c) vs. The Miz vs. Chris Jericho
The first of three as a normal triple threat and then...then would come the ladder match!!
Many Scenarios Could Follow Afterwards
Christian vs. The Miz is just one way this could all go.
After all, anything can happen in WWE right? The Chris Jericho/Christian feud could be reignited after all these years and would surely be a winner with the average longtime fan.
The young upstart Miz can come in there and start making his claims on how he is better looking, better dressed, better accompanied (Maryse as opposed to Trish once) bla bla bla.
Tag Teams could be formed out of this too. What about Chris Jericho and The Miz again? Or Christian/Jericho?
No matter how you spin it, the mid-card and the Intercontinental Championship scene would not have such an opportunity to shine so great a second time.
If keeping them in the spotlight is the goal then I see no better way. PLUS anytime I can glance at that beautiful IC title belt is a welcome occasion.
It's About Passing the Torch
Let it be known that Christian is an all-time favorite, a veteran in this business. He is the current Intercontinental Champion and has a great year ahead of him.
There comes a time however when one must begin to wonder where he is headed at a certain age. He is not old, not at all, but he isn't 20 either so careful planning is essential now.
The same applies to Chris Jericho.
When The Miz returns after filming his movie, one may suggest a full attitude change for the "Awesome One." The days of whining and losing to lesser performers must come to an end.
For them to all end up in a multi-event showdown would be music to my ears and a great way to pass the torch to Miz ultimately.
The great battles could go all the way to WrestleMania XXIX where Mizanin officially turns "face," captures the Intercontinental championship and ends up being 4-0 at the show of shows.
His streak continues, people accept him, Y2J and "Captain Charisma" put him over...a win-win situation for everyone methinks.
It is still early to tell, but here's hoping WWE comes to realize this is a golden opportunity to highlight two or three exceptional performers.
