Barring a player sliding surprisingly, you do not get to make the obvious pick with the eighth selection. That honour goes to those in the upper portion of the NBA Draft.
With the eighth pick, there are always going to be holes. Those holes are going to be plentiful or large, or maybe both. The decision-making process becomes one of sorting through several pro-and-con lists. You could look over them 10 times and not get much closer to complete conviction.
