The Longest Mock Draft in NFL History Continues...
Before I start, I just wanted to take a quick second to direct everyone’s attention to MLB’s shakedown of the Cape Cod Baseball League.
I think it’s something that deserves more attention than it’s getting.
When I heard about it on the news I was slightly disturbed. The more I read about it as I researched the issue for that article, the more angry it made me.
Bud Selig is scum. He can’t rid baseball of steroids, so he’s turned his attention to the Cape Cod Baseball League.
Where’s Congress when you need them?
Pick No. 20: Tampa Bay Buccaneers
The Tampa Bay Bucs were surprisingly good last season, shocking almost everyone and winning the NFC South.
Jeff Garcia, no matter how much I like to make fun of him for that “does anyone have any gum?” feature on Inside the NFL a few years ago, is a winner.
Joey Galloway had another fantastic season—even though he was hampered at the end by injuries (more on this later).
Earnest Graham stepped in and played extremely well after Cadillac Williams was hurt. Williams, at this point, is bordering on bust status. 2008 is a big year for him.
Having Graham on board should help as the two backs will be able to share the load, which is a situation Williams thrived in back at Auburn.
Defensively, Gaines Adams is a stud, but the rest of the defensive line is lacking in playmakers. The situation there will certainly make someone like Derrick Harvey at defensive end or Kentwan Balmer at defensive tackle tempting.
They could also use a cornerback to play opposite Tiki Barber’s brother, so someone like Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie might be an option.
I have Kenny Phillips going to Denver at twelve, but he’s another guy that’s been mentioned going to Tampa Bay. Like I said in the Broncos draft article, he’d be a great replacement for John Lynch.
Of course, the difference in Tampa is that Lynch has been gone for four seasons and they’re still looking for a suitable replacement in Tampa.
But, all that said, they lost to the Giants because their offense couldn’t score points. Galloway had a great season, but as I said, he was limited in the playoffs because he broke down.
I mean, he’s 100 years old. What did we expect?
The Pick: Malcolm Kelly, WR, Oklahoma
The Bucs need to get younger at the WR position. They also need more talent. Kelly provides both youth and talent.
At 6-foot-4, 220 pounds he has the size to drive opposing defenses crazy. He might have the best hands in the draft, and even though he didn’t run at the combine, he has the speed required to make things happen after the catch.
Injuries might be a concern, but that seems to be a common theme among the top wide receivers this year.
Kelly could be the best wide receiver in the draft. An offensive guru like Jon Gruden will not be able to pass up a shot at a talent like this with the 20th pick in the first round.
