UFC on FX 4 Guida vs. Maynard Results: Live Commentary and Play by Play
UFC on FX 4 marks the UFC's return to Atlantic City for the first time in seven years. That card featured Andrei Arlovski vs. Justin Eilers and Rich Franklin vs. Evan Tanner. This card may lack the heavyweight and middleweight title fights, but it more than makes up for it with a fantastic trilogy fight between Sam Stout and Spencer Fisher and a lightweight scrap between Gray Maynard and Clay Guida.
The card is part of a doubleheader, as the UFC will also be running fights down in Brazil the following night with UFC 147. I will be providing cageside play by play and commentary on the night.

Clay Guida vs Gray Maynard
Round 1: Guida lands a hook early and Maynard is backing up. Lot of movement from Clay as he comes forward with a straight right. Gray seems a bit flat footed as he circles away. He's yet to find his range but does land a nice jab. Maynard's nose is a bit bloodied. Huge Guida chants from the crowd but they aren't in synch at all. Gray is having trouble with Guida's movement as he can't find his range. He's having trouble closing the distance. Straight left lands for Guida. Maynard's face is showing damage as his left eye is a bit swollen and his nose looks like a mess. 10-9 Clay Guida
Round 2: They trade punches and Maynard is complaining about an eye poke. Quick stoppage and action resumes. Nice combo from Guida and man his hands are fast. Maynard looks like a deer in headlights trying to keep up. Maynard is having a ton of problems with Guida's movement. He threw two kicks and a punch and nothing landed. He finally lands but Guida keeps moving to minimize the damage. Crowd is boing a Clay Guida fight? Weird. Headkick lands for Guida and he follows up with some punches. Maynard walks through them but those did their damage. 10-9 Clay Guida
Round 3: Maynard finally seems to have found his rhythm as he lands some strikes but Guida backs away and resets. Guida lands some more punches and then back peddles. Gray is having so much trouble cutting off the cage. Gray drops for a takedown but Guida defends it and shucks him off. Guida drops for his own takedown and also can't get the fight to the ground. Guida is on his bicycle. This is kinda weird. Not the type of fight any of us expected with Guida. Maynard is just leaping forward with punches hoping he connects as Guida retreats. The crowd has shifted support to Maynard after three rounds of Guida running. Maynard closes the round by flipping off Guida and saying "F*ck You". 10-9 Gray Maynard
Round 4: Gray Maynard is definitely frustrated at this fight and he's starting to fight a bit dirty. He lands several punches and Guida complains about Maynard holding his hair. Gray lands a nice punch on a retreating Guida and finally starting to land some big shots. Another shot lands for Gray. Sorry guys, I'm giving up on trying to talk about Guida running around. Maynard is PISSED and lands knees and punches in the thai clinch. He sprawls on a Guida shot and locks in a guillotine. Guida escapes but can't do anything with top position. 10-9 Gray Maynard
Round 5: This is crazy how Clay Guida has made Maynard a fan favorite by fighting a cautious fight. Maynard lands more punches and Guida continues to retreat. Kick and two punches look to have staggered Maynard but he walks through them and calls for more. Maynard lands a hop and Guida circles away. Nice hook for Gray. Tan Dan stops the action to warn Guida about running away. Maynard presses the action and is looking for the finish. Gray shoots and Guida defends but Gray doesn't give up and works to pull his leg out. Short knees from Maynard. Maynard lands some knees in a thai clinch. Guida is doing victory laps after the bell. That was absolute toilet and in no way Gray Maynard's fault.10-9 Gray Maynard
Official Result: Gray Maynard defeats Clay Guida by Split Decision. The scores were 48-47 Maynard, 48-47 Guida, 48-47 Maynard.
Sam Stout vs Spencer Fisher
Round 1: They trade punches and a Spencer Fisher kick lands to the groin. Quick stoppage but action continues. Nice hook over the top for Fisher. They are trading punches and it looks like Fisher is getting the better of the exchanges. Stout shoots and hits a takedown and is working from the top. Nice work from Fisher at minimizing damage from the bottom. Stout stands up and Fisher is back to his feet. Stout again drives forward with a takedown but can't keep Spencer down. Nice kick to the body from Stout. Small cut has opened up under the eye of Stout. Huge punch lands to close the round. 10-9 Spencer Fisher
Round 2: They open the second round and the pace has definitely sped up a bit. Stout is throwing more kicks and Fisher is responding with straight punches. A Spencer Fisher kick is caught and Stout makes him pay with punches. Nice teep from Stout to create space. Spencer throws a spinning backfist but Stout ducks under. More punches and Stout lands a clean shot to the body. And again. Stout has definitely taken over in this fight. Another body shot. He's finding a home for those and Spencer's midsection is showing it. A kick lands low and the referee stops the fight momentarily. Stout hits a diving double leg and puts Spencer on his back. Sam lands punches from the top to close the round. 10-9 Sam Stout
Round 3: And they are throwing everything in their arsenals. Spencer has gone to the well one too many times with that spinning back fist. Sam's right eye is almost completely swollen shut. Nice combinations for Fisher but Sam responds with more body work. He follows it up with a really sharp body kick. Fisher lands a straight to the chin. Sam again looks for and completes a double leg takedown. If he can keep the fight on the ground that may be enough for him to win the round. But he can't as Fisher is working his way back to his feet. Nice 1-2 for Spencer. Stout hits another takedown but isn't doing anything with the position. The referee stands the fighters up and they are trading punches in the center of the cage. Nice straight lands for stout. This is like a loonytoons fight in a dust cloud. They hug it out after the horn. Thus ends one of the most entertaining trilogies in the sport. 10-9 Spencer Fisher

T.J. Waldburger vs Brian Ebersole
Round 1: Ebersole with a fake shot and Waldburger sprawls out. Waldburger lands a beautiful straight right and Ebersole is down. He was out temporarily but has regained his senses. Waldburger passes to mount and is working to establish the poison. He locks in an anaconda choke and Ebersole's head is purple. Somehow brian works his way out and gets back to his feet. Lead uppercut to the body from Brian. Ebersole has a thai clinch and lands a nice inside elbow. Ebersole with a nice flurry of punches. He finally looks to have settled in. Waldburger lands a nice shot and Ebersole acknowledges it with a mean mug. Ebersole clinches up against the fence and looks for a body lock to close the round. 10-9 T.J. Waldburger
Round 2: Waldburger hits a high kick and then drops down and shoots a double leg. He gets Ebersole to the ground and tries to take his back. Ebersole is back up and hits his own double leg and has Waldburger on his back. Waldburger is working a really high guard and is looking for an omoplata but doesn't have control of Ebersole's arm. He throws his legs back up and is looking to catch Brian with an arm bar but Ebersole escapes. Waldburger immediately transitions to a leg lock and then triangle. This kid is really impressive off his back. Ebersole finally unloads with punches but Waldburger is working to lock in a triangle. He's throwing elbows to the head and Ebersole postures up and lands some punches of his own. Ebersole finally unloads as the round ends. 10-9 T.J. Waldburger
Round 3: Waldburger lands as Ebersole comes forward to open the round. Ebersole lands knees to the head in the clinch. Ebersole tries a cartwheel kick but misses. They clinch against the fence and T.J. looks tired. If Ebersole is going to take this he has to finish Waldburger now. Ebersole his a takedown and is working from top with short punches. When Brian postured up T.J. began setting up a triangle. He's working to finish it but Ebersole is peppering the body with punches. Ebersole stands and T.J. is looking for an ankle. T.J. is looking to create space with his knees but Brian is relentless with punches from the top. Hammer punches from TWAS to close the round. 10-9 Brian Ebersole
Official Result: Brian Ebersole defeats T.J. Waldburger by Unanimous Decision. The three judges scored the fight 29-28.
Cub Swanson vs Ross Pearson
Round 1: Inside leg kick for Pearson early. Swanson comes up short with a lead hook. Swason lands a leg kick and then follows up with punches. They are exchanging punches and Ross is doing well to slip what Swanson is throwing. Ross ducks down and hits a huge slam against the fence. Swanson back to his feet and he's landing knees to the head. Swanson lands a punch and Pearson slips and falls to his back. Nice digging hook to the body from Ross. Swelling over Ross' left eye. Ross hits a quick takedown and Swanson lands a big up kick. Pearson responds with a diving punch. Fancy kick from Swanson misses. Kick to the body lands for Pearson. Swanson throws a wild punch and Pearson drops for another takedown but can't get it. Round ends with them throwing punches. 10-9 Cub Swanson
Round 2: They trade leg kicks and Ross drops for a counter uppercut off a Swanson straight. Swanson lands a hard right hand to the jaw. Swanson misses a cartwheel kick and follows up with a kick that lands. Ross gets the fight to the ground by running the pipe with a single. person's face is bloodied up. Counter uppercut from Swanson. Swanson throws a jumping knee and Swanson catches it and bring him to the ground. He has Cub stacked and is working punches from the top. USA chants from the fans in the arena. Swanson lands a hook to the chin and then two more that dropped Pearson. Two punches on the ground and the referee stopped the fight. Weird stoppage, may have been premature but Pearson is definitely out of it.
Official Result: Cub Swanson defeats Ross Pearson by TKO. The stoppage came in the second round.
Hatsu Hioki vs Ricardo Lamas
Round 1: Hioki is the first to land as he pops Lamas' head back with a jab. He immediately clinches against the cage and is landing knees to the body. Lamas responds with his own knees as he turns Hioki into the cage and gets the fight to the ground. Hioki locks in an omoplata and Lamas picks him up and hits a Samoan drop ala Fatu. Both fighters back to their feet and Lamas lands a straight-hook combination and then hits a trip. He can't keep Hioki down and they clinch against the fence. Hioki lands a body lock takedown and is now working from side control. He's landing some punches as Lamas turns in to get back to half guard. He's working for a kimura and Lamas defends with punches to the body. Horn sounds and I got it 10-9 Hatsu Hioki.
Round 2: Jumping switch kick from Lamas to open the round. He's finding a home for his leg kicks. Lamas lands a righthand over the top and follows up with a knee. Hioki grabs a leg and drives across the cage but can't get Lamas down. Lamas gets his leg back and blasts Hioki with punches. Hioki responds with a knee up the middle. Hioki gets Lamas down and Lamas has a modified guillotine choke. Hioki passes to half guard and escapes. He's now working from the top. Lamas again catches him in a guillotine and it looks tight. He pops his head out and again gets stuck in a guillotine. He escapes again and is just sitting in the guard of Ricardo Lamas. He finally postures up and Lamas looks for a straight arm bar. He lands some heel strikes to the kidneys to close the round. 10-9 Ricardo Lamas
Round 3: Kicks from Lamas to open the round. Hioki lands some punches and Lamas misses with a wild overhand right. They circle away and reset and both fighters are looking for their range. Hioki with a nice punch to the body but he's just slow in following up. Cartwheel kick from Lamas woos the crowd but misses its mark. Hioki lands a stiff jab as Lamas lands a leg kick. Lamas follows up with a hook as Hioki lands a front kick to the body. Hioki drops down for a takedown and slams Lamas to the mat but finds himself in a guillotine. Lamas has it locked in and Hioki is working to escape. It's going to come down who can survive longer Hioki's brain or Lamas' shoulders. Lamas gives up and Hioki has his head on the mat and again gets stuck in a choke. Punches to the body from Lamas and Hioki is just surviving. That's the fight. 10-9 Ricardo Lamas

Ramsey Nijem vs. C.J. Keith
Round 1: Ramsey gets hit low early and time is called. When action continues Keith is able to get Nijem to the ground. Nijem is using butterfly guard and gets back to his feet. He clinches up and gets Keith to the ground and quickly transitions to mount. He's throwing punches from the top and Keith goes fetal. The referee stops the fight and I'm not so sure if that was a good stoppage or not. Gut says it was a good stoppage though.
Official Result: Ramsey Nijem defeats C.J. Keith by TKO. The stoppage came at 2:29 in the first round.
Brock Jardine vs Rick Story
Round 1: Nice digging body punch from Story to open the fight. He follows it with a kick to the body. Story is working the body early with more punches to the liver. Jardine grabs a leg and drives forward but can't get Story down. USA chant breaks out with two American fighters. Story grabs a leg and gets the fight to the ground. He has a single hook in as Jardine gives up his back. Rick landing knees to the body while Jardine is turtled. Jardine stands up and lands a nice kick to the body. Fans are apparently not liking the pace of this fight as they yell out "Take your time, we've got all night!" The round ends with a head kick from Rick Story and the two wildly throwing punches. 10-9 Rick Story
Round 2: Jardine throws two punches to the body. Story tosses him against the fence and to the ground. He's landing some big knees to the ass. Seriously, those knees are vicious. Story has a hook in but Jardine stands and escapes. The two trade punches in the center of the cage and Story lands another kick to the body. Story is winning the wrestling as well as he gets Jardine to the mat again and has his back. Fans are calling for a stand up. They don't realize that Story has his back apparently. Jardine gets back to his feet and keeps pushing forward. Jardine throws a hook and Story changes levels and gets him to the ground again. The horn sounds after some ground and pound. 10-9 Rick Story
Round 3: Rick Story gets the fight grounded immediately and he's landing some big punches from the top. As Jardine stands up he catches Story with a powerful punch. Story has him back to the ground and lands some nice punches before locking in a modified d'arce. Jardine is able to escape and get back his feet. Story hits another takedown and can't keep Jardine down. Jardine looks for his own takedown but comes up empty. Story has Jardine down and is working for an arm bar. He can't extend and Jardine quickly grabs a leg looking for a quick ankle lock. The horn sounds. 10-9 Rick Story
Official Result: Rick Story defeats Brock Jardine by Unanimous Decision. All three judges scored the fight 30-27.
Joey Gambino vs Steven Siler
Round 1: Steven Siler comes in but quickly to attack but abandons it just as fast. Gambino clinches against the fence and but gives up when he gets hit with a nice elbow. Siler grabs a leg and starts kneeing the body. He's bloodied up Gambino and has him on the mat. He takes Joey's back and gets both hooks in. He's landing punches to the head. Gambino rolls to his back and then drives forward and gets caught in a guillotine. He taps really quickly.
Official Result: Steven Siler defeats Joey Gambino with a guillotine choke. The submission came at 2:40 in the first round.
Nick Catone vs Chris Camozzi
Round 1: Camozzi lands a leg kick to open the round. They trade punches and Catone looks really comfortable as he lands a massive overhand right. Camozzi is unphased and pushes forward and lands one of his own and then clinches. Catone is able to break way from the clinch and they trade punches in the center of the cage. This is a really even fight and the crowd is definitely pro-Catone as he is the local fighter. Catone snatches a leg and drives the pipe to get the fight to the ground. The round ends with Catone standing over Camozzi. The crowd erupts. 10-9 Catone
Round 2: Catone lands an uppercut/hook combination that stands Camozzi straight up. He follows up with more uppercuts. He's loving fighting in front of his friends. He lands punches in the clinch and the crowd starts chanting "Jersey Devil!" over and over again. They clinch against the cage and Catone is landing knees to the thighs and just beating up Camozzi in the clinch. On the break he lands an uppercut. Catone drops for a takedown and Camozzi lands a big uppercut that stops Catone in his tracks. It also bloodied up his nose. Catone drops for another single and again runs the pipe to get the fight to the ground. HUGE "JERSEY DEVIL" chants. 10-9 Catone
Round 3: Camozzi realizes he's down on the cards and lands two big punches to open the round. He's throwing knees from the clinch and Catone's face is an absolute mess. Catone shoots from way outside but can't grab a leg. His face is painted red and Camozzi is just stalking him. There is a break in the action to have the doctor check the cut and the fight is called. There may be a riot as the crowd is FURIOUS at the call. Fighter health comes first.
Official Result: Chris Camozzi defeats Nick Catone via doctor stoppage. The time was 1:51 in the third.
Matt Brown vs Luis Ramos
Round 1: They are trying to find their range as Brown paws out a jab. Ramos slips when throwing a leg kick. Brown turns his hip on his own leg kick and then tries going high with a head kick but misses. They clinch against the fence and Ramos gets Brown down. Brown rolls through and gets back to his feet. They clinch against the cage and Matt lands a nice knee to the thigh. They separate and Brown takes a leg kick. Ramos follows up with a hook that Brown walks through. Ramos looks to the be the more comfortable fighter through three minutes. Brown just hasn't found his range. Knee to the body and head for Matt Brown. Ramos clinches up and drops down for takedown but Brown defends well. With ten seconds left the referee separates them. 10-9 Luis Ramos
Round 2: Brown comes out aggressive early on and Ramos stands toe to toe. Ramos lands a really nice leg kick and then drives forward and clinches. Ramos pushes off and they finally trade punches in the center of the cage. Brown lands some punches and bloodies up Ramos' face. Brown trips Ramos to the ground and then blasts him with a punch. Knees to the face from Brown and he's finally working his stand up well. Ramos looks tired and Brown is pushing forward. Brown is battering Ramos with punches and Ramos looks for a single leg but can't get it. Nice elbows and knees from Brown. He's going for the kill. Ramos is surviving and takes Brown's back in a clinch. Brown turns into him and sprawls out. He's doing work in the clinch landing more knees and elbows. Nice elbows and the referee finally steps in. That was a great performance from Matt Brown.
Official Result: Matt Brown defeats Luis Ramos by TKO. The stoppage came at 4:20 in the second round.
Dan Miller vs Ricardo Funch
Round 1: Tan Dan is the referee. Huge Miller chants. A lot of circling early on. Huge body kick lands for Miller. Funch lands by going high with a kick but it's blocked. Miller is stalking and lands a two punch combo. Funch drives forward and clinches up against the fence. Miller gets underhooks and trips Funch. He follows up with three punches to the head. They break and Miller comes forward and they trade punches against the fence. Miller is working for an over/under and they break. Miller and Funch get caught in an exchange it looks like Dan gets the better shots in. The horn sounds. 10-9 Dan Miller
Round 2: Round two opens up really quickly and Dan lands several punches. Funch is on the retreat and Miller almost locks in a guillotine. he abandons it and looks for a takedown. The crowd yells out "JERSEY WRESTLING!" but Miller gives up the attempt and backs away. Funch comes forward with punch and doesn't land anything. Miller responds with punches. Funch again almost gets caught in a guillotine and this one looks tight. He gets the fight to the ground but Miller quickly transitions to an ankle lock. Funch survives and lands several big shots but can't put Dan away. Apparently "Jersey wrestling" is a chant as Dan gets back to his feet. Funch tries a foot sweep but can't get the fight to the ground. Solid round as the horn sounds. 10-9 Dan Miller
Round 3: Round starts and Funch lands a chopping inside leg kick. Miller responds with uppercuts from the clinch. Funch smiles but those definitely hurt him. Dan lands a right hook and Funch is down. He's pouring it on with punches on the ground. The crowd is going crazy right now. Funch survives and gets back to his feet but Miller is just killing him with punches and knees. Funch gets some space and swings and falls on his ass. Funch clinches and gets Miller down and is working for an arm-in guillotine but he can't get it. Miller stands and locks in a guillotine. Funch taps! The crowd is going crazy as Dan is emotional with this win. He really needed this and I'm happy he got this win during such a trying time in his life.
Official Result: Dan Miller submits Ricardo Funch by Guillotine Choke. The submission came at 3:12 in the third round.
Ken Stone vs Dustin Pague
Round 1: They circle and Stone takes the center of the cage early. He's the first to land with a nice kick to the body. Pague responds with a chopping leg kick. Nice flurry and Stone looks to have found his range. Pague is finding a home for those leg kicks. Stone comes forward and Pague lands three punches and Stone quickly retreats. Hard kick to the body lands to Stone. That was legitimately audible. Nice jab-cross for Stone. Pague slips several punches and looks to have finally settled into a rhythm. Stone lands and Pague looks to be hurt but Pague responds and tags Stone and stops him dead in his tracks. They trade kicks and Pague's kick looks to have landed to the groin. Brutal. Stone is on his knees and breathing hard. That was definitely rough. Action continues and Stone is moving nicely. Pague lands three hard punches but Stone stays on his feet. Pague lands more and Stone survives and presses the attack. They trade kicks and Pague comes forward with an overhand right that lands clean. Time. Great first round. 10-9 Dustin Pague
Round 2: Pague attacks first and lands a couple punches. Stone clinches up and uses a body lock to get the fight to the ground. Pague is quickly up and defending the takedown with undercooks. Stone is brutalizing his legs with short knees tot he thighs. The referee finally breaks them and now it looks like Stone lands a kick to the groin. Okay guys you're even. Okay action continues and Stone lands a nice kick. Pague throws a spinning back fist. Stone doesn't ask if "we're throwing spinning shit now". Nice punches land for Pague but Stone backs away to minimize the damage. Stone clinches again but Pague pushes off. They trade leg kicks. The horn sounds. 10-9 Ken Stone
Round 3: Action and pace have slowed a bit going into the third but Pague lands a nice combination. Pague comes forward and stone avoids everything. They square up and Pague lands a lazy head kick that doesn't have much on it. Stone drives forward and clinches up. The fight ends up on the ground and Stone hits a switch and ends up on top. He's posted up and working short punches to the head and body. Nice work from Stone as he's locking down Pague with a headlock and undertook. Pague has the ability to work an arm bar if he wanted to as Stone's arms are on the mat but he's just too tired at this point. Stone comes over the top with a nice punch that lands. He's pressed Pague against the fence and Dustin looks to the ref for a standup. That's not going to happen. Pague pushes off and gets back to his feet but barring a knockout he's lost this round. Nice knee tot he body for Pague but Stone gets hime down and then works a guillotine on the way up. 10-9 Ken Stone
