The Return of EliteXC

Travis AtkinsonContributor IFebruary 11, 2009

On Oct. 11, 2008 we witnessed the end of EliteXC as Seth Petruzelli moved up in weight, on only a few hours notice, to knock out Kimbo Slice. Within days of that card the promotion folded.

The fighters' contracts have been up in the air for four months now. They have not been able to compete, and were basically trapped, until someone purchased them—that person was Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker.

As soon as he bought the organization he began to schedule an event for Apr. 11, which  would air on Showtime.

The Main Event features a battle between two of MMA's most arrogant personas, as former UFC champ Frank Shamrock takes on former EliteXC champ Nick Diaz. This bout will be contested at a catch weight of 179 pounds.

Also fighting on the card is Benji Radach, Scott Smith, Christiane Santos, and Strikeforce lightweight champ Josh Thomson.
