Brett Favre: The Jets Will Cope Without Him
I know we have heard this story once before, yet I think this time it is certain that Brett Favre will finally retire.
Being a Jets fan, I was more than happy when the team acquired Brett in the middle of the summer last year. I told myself, and many of the people I knew, that this could be the Jets' year, and it looked that way up until about eleven games in.
People were praising Favre for what he had done for the Jets by bringing them this far, ignoring his supporting cast and the amazing seasons some of his teammates were having. Thomas Jones had a career year last year, rushing for 1,312 yards as well as 16 total touchdowns. Many of the new faces the Jets brought in also preformed better than expected, including Kris Jenkins, who emerged as one of the premier nose tackles in the league.
Excluding Favre, the Jets also sent six players to the Pro Bowl—more than any other team. The Jets performed much better than expected on the defensive side of the ball, stopping almost every running back they faced.
Look for the Jets to be a good team, even with a struggling quarterback. A screen-style offense should be easy enough to run for an inexperienced quarterback to manage. An experienced line should help the running game, and one can only hope that Rex Ryan will bring the same intensity that made the Ravens' defense so physical during his years spent in Baltimore.
I have dealt with years and years of disappointment, witnessing more losing seasons than winning ones, and only seeing the Jets advance to the AFC championship game once. I would love for this year to be different and have the Jets surprise the world, but no one will ever know with the NFL's most unpredictable team.
