Nike Deserves Applause for 'Be True' Rainbow Sneakers Supporting LGBT Community
Sneakerheads now have an outlet to show their gay pride as Nike prepares to release the Be True Pride Pack.
Consider them a set of sneakers to showcase one's specific style while celebrating specific cities and their progressive leadership.
The announcement comes a day after a pair of Adidas shoes received a flood of criticism for their off-putting design.
As we reported here, the JS Roundhouse "Handcuff" Mid sneakers were received by many for being racist in design.
While the shoe company came out and stated there was nothing racially charged by the design, Adidas has since decided to pull the shoes referred by many as the "shackles."
For Nike, they now have a set of shoes that promote goodwill and actually deliver a great deal of swag along the way.
Each sneaker will be released within a specific city. Those in New York City, Portland and San Francisco will be the lucky few to get the shoes.
The details are as follows from the official page at Nike.
H/T Business Insider
BE PDX/ Nike Lunar Flow: Available at Nike Portland June,15 2012 - $130
BE NYC / Nike Air Royal: Available at Niketown NYC June 22, 2012 - $120
BE SF / Nike Air Flytop: Available at Niketown Union Square June 22, 2012 - $140
There are far too many misses when it comes to sneakers, but these are a collection of pure hits. That sentiment holds true from the outsoles of these shoes all the way to the impetus behind them.
While many misunderstood the misguided efforts of Adidas' JS Roundhouse Handcuffs, there is no mistaking the goodwill and celebration provided by these shoes.
Three great cities will be getting some serious swagger shortly. I, for one, am jealous.
