I have lived in Southern Indiana all my life.  When I was a kid, every time we went shopping, we would pass Don Mattingly's house.  Mattingly was something of a local hero.

All the kids knew he was near, and everyone loved him.

For that reason, I have been a Yankees fan forever.  That said, watching ESPN the last couple of days has been painful.  It seems like every two or three minutes they are commenting on Alex Rodriguez and how terrible it is that he used steroids.

My question is, who cares?

Sure, some may say that he was cheating, but honestly, with the sheer number of people who have now been called out for their use, the question really has become, "Is it really cheating if everyone is doing it?"

I don't think it is.

As Stephen Colbert said on his show in reference to Roger Clemens, "These people are being paid to entertain us.  We are entertained by watching players hit home runs.  Steroids increase the likelihood of a player hitting a home run.  So, steroids aren't really performance enhancing drugs, they are entertainment-enhancing drugs."

We as Americans watch sports to be entertained, so I think I'm with Colbert on this one. I think it would be irresponsible for players not to do anything they could to entertain us.
