Manchester United Transfer Rumors: Dissecting Recent Reports about Red Devils
There has been a bevy of recent transfer rumors surrounding Manchester United, but how much truth is there to this gossip?
With the addition of Japanese midfielder Shinji Kagawa on June 5, the Red Devils have already made a substantial move, but it appears they'd like to bolster their squad a bit more.
Luka Modric, Midfielder, Tottenham
Last summer, Manchester United rival Chelsea was close to signing a deal with Modric, but his transfer request was denied by his current team, Tottenham, and a deal was never made.
Now, Sir Alex Ferguson is keen on the 26-year-old Croatian and looks to add the talented midfielder for around £30 million.
Modric signed a long-term contract with Tottenham prior to the beginning of this season, but he is likely to move due to displeasure with the team.
Unfortunately, Man U faces two serious roadblocks in their attempt to sign Modric.
First, his current team, Tottenham, values the midfielder at around £40 million, which appears to be out of United's price range as of now.
Secondly, a flurry of reports have emerged suggesting that Modric is more interested in signing with Real Madrid and joining La Liga.
Hope is quickly sputtering among Man U in acquiring the talented Croat, but Fergie remains steadfast in his desire to attain him.
James Rodriguez, Winger, FC Porto
Rumors have been circulating for months now regarding the Red Devils interest in the 20-year-old FC Porto wing, and it appears to be just a matter of time before a deal is made.
Rodriguez has been outstanding for FC Porto this season, as well as with his Colombian national team in their quest to qualify for the 2014 World Cup.
There have also been reports that current Red Devils winger Nani may be on his way to Italian powerhouse Juventus if his contract disputes are not settled, according to Talksport.com.
Rodriguez could become a long-term replacement for Nani and would thrive in doing so.
Expect a deal to be made for the up-and-coming Colombian international within the next month.
Thiago Alcantara, Winger, FC Barcelona
The 21-year-old winger for Barcelona has apparently grown frustrated with his lack of action on the field.
Now, Manchester United is interested in signing the young international, according to Dailymail.com, who is valued at £21 million.
Italian team AC Milan may begin a bidding war with Man U for the rights to Alcantara, something United likely isn't particularly interested in becoming involved with.
This deal may or may not happen and is going to depend largely on how much AC Milan is willing to pay for the talented winger.
The only deal of these three rumors that seems likely as of now is that for FC Porto winger James Rodriguez.
That said, this is Manchester United, and there aren't many superstars who won't be enticed by the opportunity to play at Old Trafford.
