Eric Lindros, Jeff Beukeboom, Alyn McCauley were part of a panel at the Hockey Concussion Summit that recommended the end of fighting in the NHL and all levels of hockey.
The big topic around the NHL this winter has been whether or not fighting should be banned from the game. Much of this comes about because of the death of Ontario Senior League player Don Sanderson.
The 21-year-old amateur succumbed to injuries that were the direct result of brain trauma caused by hitting his head on the ice during a fight.
Fighting is on the rise in NHL this year, with almost half of all games having at least one fight.
A concussion panel that included former NHLers who suffered concussions -- Lindros, Beukeboom, and McCauley -- recently recommended a ban on hockey fights.
Fighting should be eliminated from hockey at all levels of the game, according to recommendations released at the Concussion Summit.
Colin Campbell added the fight debate to the agenda for the GMs meeting in Naples, Fla. scheduled for March.
NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman is on record as saying there likely will always be fighting in hockey.
The London Hockey Concussion Summit also called for the elimination of high hits or head hits.
