The 2009 Pebble Beach Pro-Am Six Pack

Congrats go out to Nick Watney for his perseverance at last week's Buick Invitational. The tournament was really there for Camilo Villegas to take, but he took his foot off the gas far too soon.
John Rollins appeared on Sunday to have an almost guaranteed victory, that slipped away like sands through the hourglass after he plunked his second shot on the 18th into the green-side bunker.
Look for Watney to take some serious steps up in value over the next few weeks.
I have a feeling his lofty goal of being selected to the President's Cup, may actually become a reality. He his truly focused on making the team.
It's amazing what one can do when puts one mind to it.
I have a picture of Davis Love III with the Pebble Beach trophy from 2001 posted.
There is a reason. I like to call it foreshadowing. See Freshman Year English 101.
Will Phil get something going this week?
How's Vijay's return going to look?
I have some true value in this week's six-pack, so get out your pen and paper and take some notes.
Before we go there I did want to let you know who I am selecting for my Yahoo league this week.
GROUP A: KJ Choi (START), Mike Weir
GROUP B: DJ Trahan (START) Davis Love III (START), Matt Goggin, Dustin Johnson
GROUP C: Webb Simpson (START), Retief Goosen
1. Mike Weir
Mike Weir has more top tens in this weeks field then all other golfers at this Tournament except for two people.
Only Davis Love III and Vijay Singh have more T10 finishes at Pebble Beach than Mike Weir. They both have seven T10's and Weir is right there with six.
Mike Weir has been playing great golf since the second half of 2008. His only cut was at the FBR Open, an event that saw many of the mighty fall short.
At 20/1, you have a good bet that Mike will contend here. He plays great at this event and is probably one of the most motivated guys out there to win this thing, since he never has before.
2. Davis Love III
Davis Love III is a lot like David Toms as far as where his early season motivations lie.
Davis really wants to punch his ticket to the Masters in April, and is right on the bubble of making it.
Basically if you are one of the top 50 golfers in the overall world ranking, then you get an invite.
Right now, DL3 is 57th in the world. He has a very realistic chance of making it.
Love also has a very realistic chance of winning this week. He won here in 2001 and again in 2003.
He holds seven T10 finishes here and is playing some really good golf this year coming off an injury-laden 2008.
At 25/1, Love's track record alone makes him a good bet this week.
3. Matthew Goggin
The Aussies have been playing some great golf so far this year.
I think this week is going to be Matt Goggin's turn to shine.
Goggin is looking to start his season right where he left off last year. I think that he has a great handle on his game right now.
He drives the ball a long way off the tee and he is an excellent putter.
He placed T6 at last week's Buick Invitational and is due to have a great run here at Pebble Beach.
40/1 is tremendous value for one of the better young Australians on tour.
4. John Mallinger
It's hard to tell, but that is John teeing it up at Pebble Beach last year.
Mallinger was a Nationwide success story from a couple of years ago who has been decent on the big tour so far.
Mallinger has played Pebble Beach twice before. He placed third each time. Mallinger typically has slow starts to his seasons, but seems to get things going at Pebble Beach for some reason.
Mallinger has only made the cut once so far this year in four attempts, but like I said, he tends to turn things around on this course.
Watch for John to be in the top ten this week, and maybe win the whole thing. After all, he is 50/1 to win...
5. Dustin Johnson
I am expecting big things from this guy this year.
His first big thing of '09 will be a win at Pebble Beach this weekend. Last year, was his first year playing here and he placed 7th.
I like him to really have a good showing this week. He has made three out of four cuts so far this year and he already has two T25 or better finishes.
Also, at 50/1 you have to give this guy a shot.
6. Jason Day
Yet another young Aussie makes his way into my six pack.
He was T6 here last year, and is looking to get his 2009 jump started.
What better way to do that than by winning the Pebble Beach Pro-Am?
Jason Day is my dark horse special of the week @ 125/1.
Lay it down and win!
