With free agency right around the corner, where should the Dallas Mavericks focus their attention?
Nowitzki will be entering his 15th NBA season in 2012-13, but making another run at a championship with Dallas is not yet out of the question.
The Mavericks should see if they can bring in a big-name free agent such as local Deron Williams (which would make things quite interesting), as well as look to add other established veterans that can make the team more complete and playoff-ready.
In order to make another serious run at a title, they should look to sign a mixture of young players and established veterans to play alongside Nowitzki.
One player in particular they should look to add to their roster is recently-turned free agent Gerald Wallace of the Brooklyn Nets. Wallace would be a great fit next to Nowitzki with his attacking style of play as well as his leadership and professionalism that goes unnoticed at times.
Wallace’s ability to get to the free-throw line as well as play solid defense would also be welcomed, since the Mavericks were known for their defensive abilities when they won the NBA championship back in 2011. He would replace Vince Carter, who is more of a jump-shooter at this stage of his NBA career.
Jason Kidd and Jason Terry are both unrestricted free agents come July 1, but it is possible that both could return, although nothing is known at this particular time.
There are a lot of questions that the Mavs will have to solve this offseason, although at the end of the day they need to be more competitive and need to add more scoring and versatility around Nowitzki.
It will be interesting to see what Mark Cuban plans on doing come July 1.
