Brett Farve: An Overrated QB

Divya ParmarSenior Analyst IMarch 8, 2008

Let me preface this by saying I think Brett Favre is an excellent QB, a very nice and kind person, and a great man.

All we hear about these people following the Brett Favre retirement is how great he is. Top 5, best-ever, blah, blah, blah.

Does any remember that Favre threw an interception to Corey Webster to lose the game for the Packers?

Anybody....? Anybody.....? Bueller? Bueller?

HELLO!!!!!! Why does Brett Favre get a pass for this?

This guy was a total gunslinger, and would throw the ball into triple-coverage. If the ball was miraculously caught, everyone (*cough* John Madden *cough* ) would say, " What a great throw!!! What an arm!!!"

Sure Brett Favre could throw a perfect bomb 80-yards down the field to win a game, but he was JUST AS LIKELY to throw a drive-ending interception. Those picks kill drives.

If I needed one QB to win one game, I would rather have Joe Montana everyday of the week and twice on Sunday. I want my QB to be consistent, and not make such risky decisions. Just throw the damn ball away.

I understand how likable and down-to-earth Brett is, and how he plays with passion. But he is a riverboat gambler, and is an all-or-nothing player, often getting nothing.

Brett, I think you are a great person, a great man, and I have a lot of respect for you. But I just don't think you are a top-5, all-time great QB.
