Swimming against the tide of public opinion, ex-Chelsea striker and now talking-head Tony Cascarino has come out in defence of the Blues’ decision to give Phil Scolari the boot after just seven months in the job.
Cascarino, known for his outspoken opinion, argued that recent performances against Hull, Stoke, and the manner of Chelsea’s defeat at Old Trafford has meant that any title aspirations at the Bridge have evaporated.
Accordingly, this has had the knock-on effect of the board losing confidence in the club’s ability to win the Champions League.
Problems in the dressing room were also cited as a root cause of the dismissal according to Cascarino. Calling out “player power,” the hack argued that the Blues’ books are packed with winners who, in light of the recent downturn at the club, have become “disillusioned.”
Labelling Chelsea as “one-dimensional,” the hack argued that the Brazilian had been outwitted on the tactical front before playing up to the commonly-used excuse that Scolari is more suited to the international game rather than club football.
