Cristaine "Cyborg" Santos has just signed a four-fight deal with Strikeforce.

This is not only big news for the rising female MMA superstar, but this is big news for MMA fans around the world.

The much anticipated "women's fight of the year," whenever it will take place, between Cris Cyborg and Gina Carano now looks to be even closer to finally taking place.

Gina's contract with Elite XC was acquired by StrikeForce when they picked up all of the failed promotion company Elite XC contracts.

They may not be meeting at the first StrikeForce event, but surely these two fighters will eventually have to square off to determine who really is the face of women's MMA.

It is a shame that the UFC or the WEC won't be showcasing any female fighters for some time, if any. At least StrikeForce is taking over in this department.

This was the only thing that Elite XC did that could be considered smart.

There might be a lack of female fighters right now, but the talent in the pool is growing and growing quite rapidly.

There is no way of knowing how long StrikeForce will be around, although it seems to be doing fine for now, but we should all support it while we can.

So at the very least we can see the best the world has to offer in women's MMA.
