Chad Ochocinco to Miami Dolphins: Boom or Bust?
I have to say it. Chad Ochocinco is taking his talents to South Beach.
The Miami native just inked a one-year deal with the Miami Dolphins in a well-publicized (overly publicized) free-agent signing. The move generated a lot of press for a team that already has a first-year head coach, a rookie quarterback and plenty of uncertainty heading into 2012.
After just 15 catches in a single washout season with New England, it's fair to ask whether the end is near for the former Chad Johnson. Miami's current stable of wideouts is unpopular, if not unproductive.
Davone Bess and Brian Hartline didn't exactly set the world on fire in 2011, barely reaching 1,000 receiving yards as a pair. Ochocinco has a chance to either outshine them (if, at age 34, he can) or battle newcomer Legedu Naanee to avoid becoming the Miami's least relevant pass-catcher. That is, if he can make the final 53-man roster.
Either way, Hard Knocks just got a lot more interesting. HBO's preseason reality show arguably has a star that it didn't have when the announcement came that Miami's training camp would be showcased in the popular miniseries. Did the show play any part in Ochocinco's arrival? Perhaps a large part?
And where does this leave Ryan Tannehill? The rookie quarterback might have his hands full if Chad decides to go full Ocho. Could the signing backfire and harm Tannehill's long-term development?
Lead NFL blogger Aaron Nagler and I give our two pesos on the Chad Ochocinco signing in our latest debate. Take a gander at our video above and leave us your own pensamientos in the comments. As always, thanks for watching.
