Kim English to Pistons: Scouting Report, Video Highlights and Analysis
Kim English is coming off his senior season at Missouri as the team's second-leading scorer and their best three-point shooter.
English plays smartly, limiting turnovers, playing tough defense and basically doing things that he's able to do. He doesn't try to overstep on defense, as he realizes his shortcomings with strength and athleticism.
What English Brings to the Team
English seems destined to be a specialist at the next level, but crazier things have definitely happened in the NBA.
The 6'6" shooting guard shot just a shade under 46 percent from long range as a senior at Mizzou, which makes him a perfect candidate for a guy who can come off the bench, hit a few open threes in the corner and sit back down, happy.
One thing you can say about the other aspects of his game, however, is that he tries as hard as anyone could, but he just doesn't have all the tools to make it work.
What Experts Are Saying
DraftExpress.com's Kyle Nelson looked at English mid-season and saw great improvement in his shooting form from last season to this season:
On tape, English continues to show excellent mechanics including a quick, fluid release and solid elevation. He excels as a catch-and-shoot option, where he sees nearly half of his offensive possessions and where he currently converts an amazing 52 percent of his attempts. He has improved shooting off of screens, as well, doing a much better job of getting his body squared and feet set prior to leaving the floor.
Impact as a Rookie
Quite honestly, English is one of those guys who could come in as a rookie and—as long as he doesn't get spooked by all the people who have come to the game—contribute right away.
He's expected to do no more than come in and shoot some threes, and he should be able to do that at the very least.
Kim English can flat out shoot and is a blue-collar player. English has limitless range and fills a big need for the Pistons, who did not shoot the ball well from outside the arc.
