Knott becomes the second offensive lineman to commit to South Carolina over the weekend after USC picked up J.P. Vonashek on Saturday. Both players are also from the state of Georgia.
This is the Gamecocks' fourth offensive lineman to commit in this recruiting cycle and the 17th commitment overall for the class of 2013. South Carolina has had its issues on the offensive line in the past but it appears that new coach Shawn Elliott has done a tremendous job of refilling the talent level at South Carolina.
The main contenders for Knott were the Gamecocks and the North Carolina Tar Heels.
Both teams were mentioned among the top two teams to land Knott's services in the future. North Carolina felt confident they would land Knott as late as the end of April, but Knott decided to wait and make a decision over the summer before his senior season.
It's a good thing for the Gamecocks that Knott decided to wait.
This commitment shows that the Gamecocks still recruit the area of Georgia extremely well. This is the sixth commitment from the state of Georgia not including JUCO commitment Brandon Golson, who is currently enrolled at Georgia Military College.
Knott chose South Carolina among offers from UNC, East Carolina, Virginia Tech, Miami and Louisville.
