Ladies, gentlemen, and hard-core fight fans, please show respect for this great Mixed Martial Arts pioneer; please hold your side-splitting laughter until after you've painfully read the following:
Ken Shamrock 26-13-2 now entering an astounding 17th year of professional MMA fighting, will compete against a near 400-pound Ross Clifton (6-8) at Friday's "Wargods: Valentine's Eve Massacre" in Fresno, CA.
Ken Shamrock stated, "I've done everything in this business, but I haven't fought anybody that's 400 pounds. I'm thinking, man, what a challenge!"
I'm thinking, man, what a joke!
Also joining Shamrock on Friday's card will be fellow pioneer, and MMA legend David "Tank" Abbott (9-14).
The 43-year-old Tank has lost eight of his past nine fights, but the brawler will stand toe-to-toe with God if there's a promoter involved who's crazy enough to give him a decent payday. Enter Ken Shamrock.
I was wondering as I read all this; who in their right mind would promote such a spectacle and make Shamrock the headliner? But as you have probably already figured out, its extremely easy to be "the main event" when you happen to own the whole promotion.
"I've been trying to do promotions for a long time," Shamrock said. "I've done some small ones, and we've always done quite well at it. But it's a lot of work when you start moving up the ranks in promotion."
Shamrock said he felt comfortable pairing his own Ken Shamrock Productions with the three-event-old California-based Wargods promotion based on their shared vision for the future.
"We met with Wargods and we talked to them," Shamrock said. "We felt the vision they had was a similar vision to what I had: Start out slow, build your company up, have good fights and have good promotions as best as you can with the budget.
"Build it slow. Don't try to jump right up in the big leagues and take on everybody. Work your way up into the ranks. However far the fans will take you is how far you'll go."
Ken seems extremely confident that he can beat this 400-pound butterball wannabee, and that's a damn good thing, because last time out he sorta got cold feet and cut himself shaving his eyebrows; he then decided he didn't look handsome enough for National TV and so he bowed out.
And god knows we wouldn't want another episode where Seth Petruzelli has to get out of bed, get dressed, and go knock out some tomato can that Ken couldn't handle.
As I got half-way through reading this serious piece of journalism, it finally dawned on me what ulterior motive that Ken is concocting; could it possibly be Shamrock versus Abbott?
"It's a fight that everybody wants to see," Shamrock said. "We're a little bit long in the tooth, but we both do it because we enjoy it. We've done a lot for the business, and we should be able to do it as long as we want.
Ken also says, "As long as we can get in there and put on good fights, and the fans want to watch us, we should be able to do this. Leave me be. 'Tank' Abbott is another one. Let him go. Let us have fun."
Mr. Shamrock also has his pipe dreams, regarding his version of the reality show TUF. "We're getting a fighter house built," Shamrock said. "We've already got it going. We're getting it furnished and all that. We're going to start placing fighters in there very soon."
"We want to come in and start giving guys opportunities that are struggling that don't have the ability to pay rent or get food or all that stuff. They'll be able to come into our house where the rent is low, they chip in with the food, and it helps them with the bills and stuff so they can continue on being fighters if that's what they want to do."
Sounds like Shamrock has found a cure for homelessness, anyone who is homeless and can't pay rent or find food just call Ken Shamrock or Tank Abbott, and they will set you up in a nice house with plenty to eat...all you have to do is be the star fighter in this new version of " Internet Bum-fights."
Sometimes I put on a ski mask and dress in old clothes, go out on the streets and beg for quarters. - Mike Tyson
