Making The Case For Pat White in Detroit

The NFL 2009 Draft is now slightly less than three months away and the combine is right around the corner. I've read over several of these mock drafts and they have had little reasoning or rationalization as to why the Lions should waste their first pick overall on Stafford (Georgia) or their twentieth pick overall on Freeman (Kansas State).

I am making the case for Pat White, to be their first choice in the second round and their only quarterback drafted in 2009.

Do I believe that Pat White is the Lions quarterback of the future? Absolutely, not. What Pat White brings to the Lions at quarterback is elusiveness. During the Millen Regime (and as it continues) the Lions quarterbacks have taken an immense amount of not only hits, but an amazing amount of sacks. The speed that White brings would allow for plays that breakdown to develop into something more than twelve yard losses or errant throws turned pick six.

I can see White being used as back up qb after next year's draft. I can even see him as being used much like Kordell Stewart was in Pittsburgh. The only downside that I see with White is that the offense he ran at West Virginia was the farthest thing possible from an NFL offense. But, what he may lack in experience he more than makes up for in speed. Besides, does anyone really think that Stafford is the next great qb of the NFL? No.
