The Belmont Stakes are back, and BR5's resident horse racing aficionado Marc Kohn has weighed in on his predictions for one of the sport's most prestigious events.
Kohn gives us the low-down on what to expect from three of the big favorites: Union Rags, Dullahan and I'll Have Another.
Union Rags is a three-year-old thoroughbred racehorse that was one of three favorites to win the 2012 Kentucky Derby. Trainer Michael Matz and jockey John Velazquez are responsible for Union Rags performing to the best of his ability. While Union Rags may stumble in the process, he is still a favorite amongst fans.
Dullahan is the "wise guy" horse this year and his trainer Dale Romans and jockey Javier Castellano could be responsible for this. But Dullahan could possibly be considered a false closer because he passes tired horses at the end of races. So there is no guarantee he can beat Union Rags or I'll Have Another.
Recently, I'll Have Another won the Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes, and is the horse to watch out for. I'll Have Another, his trainer Doug O'Neill and jockey Mario Guiterrez will have to beat the field to win if they plan on making history.
If I'll Have Another wins this year, he'll be the first horse in 34 years to win the Triple Crown. We'll have to wait and see if I'll Have Another can keep his streak going or if one of the long shots can pull the unexpected.
