As various news sites have noted, in this week's (subscribers-only) Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer notes that scribes in the company are currently under pressure to deliver a major angle in the summer months. It seems WWE (correctly) feels that their product is floundering and are eager for a hot new angle to shake things up.
The writing team is currently being pushed to come up with a, "knock your sox off," angle for the summer. The idea is to do something to jolt interest stemming from the rating and somewhat stagnant product, similar to the Nexus angle in 2010 and the C.M. Punk angle in 2011.
It will be interesting to see how WWE's 16-person writing team responds to these demands. Of course, with all the stories about the frenetic rewrites before RAW and Vince McMahon's erratic behaviour, it may be very possible, even likely, that the problems in the creative team are not related to lack of ideas.
