Sacre bleu! What's going on with the French national team?
Yesterday we brought you the case of Patrice Evra sniffing something he shouldn't have.
Think we're kidding? Watch the video above and you'll have to agree. There's no other explanation for the behavior of French internationals Franck Ribery, Samir Nasri and Karim Benzema.
The smiling. The giggling. The covering of noses.
As my niece would say, "Hey! You pooted!"
Indeed, but who did the deed?
None of the conventional wisdom seems to apply in this situation. As you can see, at least three people have smelt it, so we can't definitively tell who dealt it (that's a good strategy for a guilty party, by the way).
Nor does the video reveal whether anyone denied it, so we're still not really sure who supplied it.
With Ribery, Nasri and Benzema all on the bench, the game must be in the 74th minute or later.
That would seem to rule out the players who were on the field at the time: Hugo Lloris, Philippe Mexes, Adil Rami, Patrice Evra, Mathieu Debuchy, Laurent Koscielny, Olivier Giroud, Mathieu Valbuena, Marvin Martin, Jeremy Menez and Hatem Ben Arfa.
Besides our giggling trio, these players were on the bench: Anthony Reveillere, Gaël Clichy, Cedric Carrasso, Yohan Cabaye, Alou Diarra and Florent Malouda.
This is getting us nowhere, so I'm going with a new theory.
Even though he was on the pitch at the time, Evra clearly had been worried about something smelling bad at an earlier time.
And thus, I believe we have our culprit.
