Another 40-Man-Roster Surprise: Henry Berrera

Jordan LanningCorrespondent IFebruary 7, 2009

There is usually a guy on the 40-man-roster that no one has heard about. A couple years ago it was Joakim Soria, who is now an All-Star closer for the Royals.

This year the unknown guy is Henry Berrera. Berrera is a relief pitcher that has never pitched above Class A Wilmingtom.

Berrera who is 23 years-old will get to go to Spring Training with the Royals this year which is the first time he has ever been.

Now we must think what did he do to deserve to be on the 40-man-roster?

"We saw him down the stretch when Wilmington was in the playoffs and he was really good" said JJ Picollo, the Royals' assistant general manager for scouting/player development. "He was one guy that unanimously we felt we had to add to the roster."

Berrera was 0-3 with a 2.81 ERA in 41 games as a reliever.

But once again we must bring up the point that Berrera has never pitched above Class A.

But with a good spring Berrera could find himself in a Royals uniform. I know it's a long shot, but hey, anything can happen.
