WWE SummerSlam 2012: What Will Be the Top Matches This Year?

Bill PivetzCorrespondent IIIJune 5, 2012

No Way Out is a little less than two weeks away and the top three matches are set.

WWE has so far advertised John Cena vs. Big Show, Sheamus vs. Alberto Del Rio for the World Heavyweight Championship and CM Punk vs. Daniel Bryan vs. Kane for the WWE Championship.

Coming off the heels of Over the Limit, WWE programming hasn't reached the standards the fans are used to seeing over the past couple of weeks. This past RAW was pretty much a repeat of last week's SmackDown with the addition of the Cena segments.

I wasn't too impressed with Over the Limit. Having Cena vs. John Laurinaitis as the main event was a big mistake. It was a cheesy match and the Show heel turn was predictable. Punk and Bryan put on a hell of a match that could and should have closed the show.

Anyway, the event is over and WWE now rolls on to No Way Out and eventually SummerSlam, with Money in the Bank in between.

I have a bad feeling that Cena and Show will close out this month's pay-per-view, even with no title on the line. This storyline is boring and not believable.

We've seen this feud many times before. It began in 2004 when Cena won the United States Championship at WrestleMania XX and was revived many times after that.

Big Show is way past his prime and should be used to put younger talent over, but as long as he's receiving this push, Show will be in the main-event picture.

Money in the Bank is going to be tough to predict due to the thin roster. I'm not too sure if WWE will book two separate ladder matches. However, I can see the Show vs. Cena feud continuing into this pay-per-view.

This is from WrestleMania XX in 2004.

Now it's onto the summer classic. I'm up in the air on whether we'll see Show and Cena here or if they'll be done at Money in the Bank. I am hoping that Punk retains his title heading into SummerSlam. He's been a very successful champ and has been booked as such.

If Show is done with Cena after Money in the Bank, he may be the next in line for the WWE Championship.

But would WWE kick off a new feud at SummerSlam? I don't think they would. WWE usually uses SummerSlam as the blow-off for their feuds.

Also, Randy Orton and Chris Jericho should be back by the time SummerSlam rolls around, so they could be a part of the main-event picture on RAW and SmackDown.

I'm only predicting the main-event/title matches. My predictions for the summer pay-per-view are as follows:

Show vs. Cena with some stipulation and possible interference with Johnny Ace.

CM Punk vs. Daniel Bryan for the WWE Championship. Again, I'm hoping this feud continues because these two can entertain the hell out of the crowd.

Sheamus vs. Del Rio vs. Orton for the World Heavyweight Championship. I'm reluctant to throw Orton back into the title picture, but they need him there.

Christian vs. Cody Rhodes for the Intercontinental Championship.

Santino Marella vs. Dolph Ziggler for the United States Championship. This will continue Ziggler's push into the main event by the end of 2012.

Obviously, the champs could change between now and August 19. However, I'm hoping that the two main champions remain the same to bring back some credibility to the titles and the title holders. Punk and Sheamus need these long title reigns to cement themselves as main-eventers.

Comment with your opinions on what your SummerSlam card would look like. Also, I would like to read your opinions on whether or not you like Big Show as a main focus on RAW.
