According to the Minneapolis Star-Tribune, the Minnesota Twins signed right-handed reliever Luis Ayala to a one-year, $1.3 million dollar contract on Friday.
Ayala, 31, struggled this season with both the Washington Nationals and the New York Mets, posting a combined 5.71 ERA with 10 losses. Ayala's best year came with the Nationals in 2005 where he posted a 2.66 ERA in 68 appearances.
The deal includes up to $575,000 in performance incentives. General Manager Bill Smith declined comment, maintaining team policy in not discussing negotiations.
