Debate: Pros and Cons of Trading Pau Gasol
The trade winds are swirling around Pau Gasol, though you could argue that the last two Lakers titles were as much his as Kobe Bryant's. But Pau lacks Kobe's Los Angeles cachet and therefore is more likely to be traded in the offseason.
Here is one compelling argument for trading Pau: The Lakers already have someone who ostensibly plays his position, and they prefer that guy. Andrew Bynum is 24 years old, and he's more efficient on offense. If the Lakers are to make a leap forward, it's likely with one of these pricey talents, and not both.
The counter argument is that Bynum fetches more value on the trade market, and it is an argument that holds if you believe he is overvalued. Going with a Bynum future means signing on with a mercurial, oft-injured PR nightmare of a man. It’s a large risk either way you play this scenario.
